Already registered?

Enrolling an already configured Aventail Link installation replaces its previous registration. In the macOS 2.0.0 walkthrough, Link deregistered the old device and cleared its deployments before joining the fleet. Check that this is the intended move before running the command.

Read the device enrollment steps

Open your organisation

Open Fleet operations in the intended organisation. You need an available device slot and permission to create a fleet key; Fleet Admin and Super Admin include that permission. An administrator can supply a key if you cannot create one.

If your account shows Try Fleets free for a month, follow that offer to name a new organisation and create its first key. Availability depends on account eligibility and the offer period. An existing organisation should use its own Fleet page.

A trial organisation can become read-only when the trial ends. Its devices, models and settings remain visible, but enrollment and configuration changes are disabled. Follow the banner to restore access; key revocation remains available.

Create a key and enroll

  1. Select Add devices → Create a key.
  2. Enter a label that explains its purpose, such as Mac onboarding, and select Create key.
  3. Save the key securely. The full value is shown only once; closing it displays Have you copied the key?
  4. Choose Linux, macOS or Windows for the computer you are adding.
  5. On that computer, use Install and enroll, or the separate command under Aventail Link already installed? Keep the API address from Control's command so it connects to the correct environment.
  6. Return to Devices and find the computer. Confirm online, the expected agent version and its configuration revision.

The generated commands contain the key. Do not share them or leave the secret in shell history. To use a protected file, replace the key value in the generated command with file:/path/to/fleet-key, retaining the other environment values.

Install and enroll from a terminal

These examples target production. For development or staging, copy the command from that Control environment instead. Replace YOUR_FLEET_KEY with your key, or a protected file:/path/to/fleet-key value. Do not set the key on curl: it must reach the shell running the installer.

macOS / Linux:

curl -fsSL https://get.aventail.co.uk/install.sh | LINK_API_BASE='https://api.locai.co.uk/api/v1' AVENTAIL_FLEET_KEY='YOUR_FLEET_KEY' sh

Windows PowerShell:

$env:LINK_API_BASE = 'https://api.locai.co.uk/api/v1'
$env:AVENTAIL_FLEET_KEY = 'YOUR_FLEET_KEY'
try { & ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://get.aventail.co.uk/install.ps1))) }
finally { Remove-Item Env:AVENTAIL_FLEET_KEY }

For an existing installation, use aventail register with the same environment values. If the macOS desktop executable is not on your PATH:

LINK_API_BASE='https://api.locai.co.uk/api/v1' AVENTAIL_FLEET_KEY='file:/path/to/fleet-key' \
"$HOME/Library/Application Support/Aventail-Link/aventail" register

The file must exist on the computer being enrolled and be readable only by its intended user. On Windows, the equivalent value is file:C:\path\to\fleet-key. The screenshots show the captured interface; use the current copyable commands above or those generated by Control.

Confirm the result

New enrollments use the latest published fleet configuration. In the observed walkthrough, the new Mac reported revision v7 and began downloading its configured Gemma model automatically. Online does not mean every model is downloaded or ready to answer: inspect the device and run a small inference test.

See Monitor a fleet for device health and configuration status. If registration fails, check fleet capacity, the key's status, network access and the Control environment before retrying.

Work through a small test first

Start with one test device. Confirm enrollment and a successful response before expanding. When enrollment is complete, revoke the temporary key.

Next: manage enrollment keys, publish a fleet configuration, or configure routing.
