# Removing models

Remove one device's copy to free space, or delete an owned model from the library and its deployments. Choose the scope before confirming.

## Remove from a device

The model stays in your library and on other devices.

### Remove one device copy

Removal control captured 28 September 2026.

1. **Identify the device and model**

In Devices, open the intended device. Under Deployed Models, select the model’s trash icon.

2. **Confirm the scope**

Select Uninstall only for the intended device. The library entry and other devices are unchanged.

    - Check the confirmation: Match model and device
    - Uninstall: Queue removal of this copy
    - Check the model list: Verify after the device reconnects

**Read the device removal steps**

### Remove the model

1. In Control, open **Devices** and select the device.
2. Under **Deployed Models**, select the model's **trash icon**.
3. Check the device and model in the confirmation dialog, then select **Uninstall**. Select **Cancel** to keep it installed.

### What happens next

Control queues removal of the model's files from the selected device. The confirmation states that an offline device can receive the command when it reconnects **within 7 days**. Check the device's model list after reconnection; a queued command does not prove the files were removed.

You can deploy the model again from **Models**.

## Delete from the library

Permanent deletion

Deleting a model removes it from your library and queues removal from every device where it is deployed. You must re-upload it to use it again. To free space on just one device, [remove that copy](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/model_management/removing-models#from-a-device) instead.

### Delete a library model

Deletion affects the library and its deployments.

1. **Review before deletion**

Keep a recoverable copy of any custom artifact. To free one device’s disk space, remove that copy instead.

    - Models → Your Models: Choose an owned model
    - … → Delete: Check the model name and scope
    - Confirm or Cancel: Deletion queues removal from its devices

**Read the library deletion steps**

### Delete the model

1. In Control, open **Models → Your Models**. You need permission to delete the selected model.
2. Open the model's **…** menu and select **Delete**.
3. Check the model name in the confirmation dialog, then select **Delete**. Select **Cancel** to keep it.

The model disappears from the library. Online devices receive the removal command; offline devices must reconnect to receive it. Deleting the library entry does not confirm that files have already been removed from an offline device.
