# Uninstall Link

Source: [https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/link-app/uninstall](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/link-app/uninstall)

Uninstalling removes the local runtime, models and configuration. Finish active requests and record what you will need afterward.

### Uninstall from Preferences

Removal affects the local runtime, downloaded models and configuration. Keep a record of anything you need to reinstall.

## Aventail Link 2.0.0 on macOS

### From the desktop app

1.  Click Aventail Link's menu-bar icon and open **Preferences…**.
2. Scroll to **Danger zone** at the bottom of the window.
3. Select **Uninstall Aventail Link…** for the installation you intend to remove. Read any prompts before proceeding.
4. Check the local installation and the device record in Control afterward. If a record remains, follow [Remove a device](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/link-app/uninstall#remove-a-device).

### From Terminal

Use the executable from the installation you intend to remove:

```bash
"$HOME/Library/Application Support/Aventail-Link/aventail" uninstall
```

The 2.0.0 command describes removal of the registration, service, menu entry and all local files. Run it only when you intend to remove that installation and its data; do not assume there will be another confirmation. `--keep-registration` leaves the Control registration in place while removing the local agent.

### Headless installation on Linux, macOS or Windows

```bash
aventail uninstall
```

This removes the service, local session, logs, engines and models, then attempts to deregister the device in Control. It may run without an additional confirmation. If the device was offline or deregistration fails, remove the remaining record in Control. `--keep-registration` deliberately retains that remote record. If you used a custom `AVENTAIL_BIN_DIR`, remove the command link from that custom directory yourself.

A legacy installation uses different files and commands. Check for any legacy remnants after migration; do not delete another installation's files by guessing its path.

**Locai Link (Legacy Aventail) 1.x macOS app**

1.  Open **Preferences → Advanced → Uninstall Locai Link…**.
2. Read the removal confirmation and continue if this is the intended device.
3. Complete the macOS administrator prompt.
4. Check the outcome in the app and in Control.

Do not assume cancelling one prompt reverses earlier changes; inspect the remaining installation and device record.

**Locai Link (Legacy Aventail) 1.x terminal**

The CLI exposes:

```bash
locai uninstall
```

Read its output and any confirmation carefully. Platform-specific removal and remote deregistration must be checked separately. In particular, running the macOS package's uninstall script directly does **not** deregister the device, as documented in the [1.3.2 uninstaller source](https://github.com/locai-co-uk/locai-link/blob/v1.3.2/bundling/pkg/uninstall.sh).

## Remove a device

If a record remains after uninstalling, or a device is no longer available:

1.  Open **Devices** in Control.
2. Match the device name and ID, then choose **Deregister**.
3. Read the confirmation and confirm only the intended device.

Check that the record disappears and the account's capacity updates. Removing a record cannot erase files from an offline machine. Wipe or uninstall that machine separately before disposal or reuse.

To reconnect later, [install and register Link](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/getting-started/quickstartguide#connect), then deploy the required models.
