# Compatibility and versions

## Versions used in these guides

**Aventail** is the current brand. The runtime is **Aventail Link** from version 2.x onward; version 1.x is **Locai Link (Legacy Aventail)**. Existing commands, file paths and service addresses keep their original spelling until the corresponding service changes.

The current macOS installation guide covers **Aventail Link 2.0.0** on **macOS 26.6.2, Apple Silicon**. It installs for the current user and uses the `aventail` command. The development-account walkthrough downloaded **Llama 3.2 3B Instruct Q4\_K\_M** (2.0 GB), started serving on port **8100**, and returned a successful local chat-completions response.

The earlier Control and Workspace examples were tested with **Locai Link (Legacy Aventail) 1.3.2 Alpha** and **Gemma 4 (X-Small)** as a GGUF model. The Aventail local API test does not by itself verify Workspace browser access or other integrations.

## Current packages

[Download Link for macOS (Apple Silicon)](https://get.aventail.co.uk/releases/latest/aventail-link-desktop-macos-arm64.pkg). This is the production release. For a development or staging account, use the download offered by that Control environment.

The production release host publishes these packages for Aventail Link 2.0.0:

| Platform | Desktop | Headless |
| --- | --- | --- |
| macOS Apple Silicon (ARM64) | `.pkg` | `.tar.gz` |
| Linux x64 | `.AppImage` | `.tar.gz` |
| Windows x64 | `.exe` | `.zip` |

Use [macOS desktop setup](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/link-app/install-macos), [Linux headless installation](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/link-app/install-linux), or the [shell and PowerShell commands](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/getting-started/initial-setup#headless). The current release does not publish Intel Mac or Linux ARM/Raspberry Pi packages. The Windows installer selects x64 under ARM emulation; there is no native Windows ARM package.

### Choose the correct release environment

| Control environment | Installer and release host |
| --- | --- |
| Production | `https://get.aventail.co.uk` |
| Development | `https://dev.get.aventail.co.uk` |
| Staging | `https://staging.get.aventail.co.uk` |

Use the complete command or download from your Control environment. It pairs the release host with the matching management API through `LINK_API_BASE`; do not change only the hostname in a copied command. The local model API remains separate, normally on port 8100.

On **2 October 2026**, production's `/releases/latest.json` reported **2.0.0**, development reported **2.0.1**, and staging had no published latest release. These are dated observations, not fixed version pins. The screenshots document the earlier development 2.0.0 walkthrough; newer releases can differ. Linux and Windows package availability has been checked, but those installation journeys have not been tested on devices for these guides.

`get.locai.co.uk` remains a compatibility alias used by some 2.0.0 release metadata. It now serves Aventail releases, not a pinned 1.x installer. For legacy packages, use the dated release below.

**Locai Link (Legacy Aventail) 1.3.2 packages**

The [1.3.2 release](https://github.com/locai-co-uk/locai-link/releases/tag/v1.3.2) publishes these packages:

| Platform | Package |
| --- | --- |
| macOS Apple Silicon | Desktop `.pkg` and headless archive |
| Linux x64 | Headless archive |
| Windows x64 | Headless archive |

Check release assets for your exact operating system and architecture before installation. An installer recognising an architecture does not mean a prebuilt package exists for it. This release's assets do not establish a desktop Linux, Intel Mac or Raspberry Pi installation path.

## Model compatibility

| Workload | Format / runtime to check |
| --- | --- |
| Language generation | GGUF compatible with Link's language-model engine |
| Image or audio classification | TensorFlow Lite model with the required pipeline inputs |
| Audio transcription | Model and engine supported by the transcription plugin |

A file being accepted for upload does not prove it can execute on a device. Confirm model architecture, task, engine support, memory and disk space separately. Download size is not the memory requirement.

Use a shared model for [your first deployment](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/getting-started/initial-setup#deploy-a-model). For a custom model, see [model management](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/guides/models).

[Link release notes](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/changelog/link) describe dated changes. Documentation release numbers refer to the docs, not a universal product version.
