# Restart Link

Source: [https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/getting-started/restarting-loc-ai-link](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/getting-started/restarting-loc-ai-link)

Restart an installed Link service when it is stopped or unresponsive. Restarting interrupts active requests.

## Aventail Link 2.x

Run these commands on the Link machine, in Terminal or PowerShell:

```bash
aventail status
aventail service stop
aventail service start
aventail status
```

If `aventail` is not on PATH, use the [installed executable](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/link-app/file-locations). For the macOS desktop app, replace `aventail` with `"$HOME/Library/Application Support/Aventail-Link/aventail"`.

Use only `service start` if the service is already stopped. Then confirm **Online** in Control. The 2.0.0 CLI has `service start` and `service stop`; it does not have the old `locai restart` command.

**Locai Link (Legacy Aventail) 1.x desktop app**

Open **Link → Preferences → Agent** and select **Restart**. Check that the agent is **Running**, then confirm the device is **Online** in Control.

**Locai Link (Legacy Aventail) 1.x terminal**

Run these on the machine where Link is installed:

```bash
locai status
locai restart
locai status
```

If you only need to start a stopped service, use `locai start`. Check [file locations](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/link-app/file-locations) if the command is missing.

Do not repeat registration just to restart the service. Packaged installations use the `locai` command; commands such as `uv run main.py run` belong to older source-install instructions.

If Link stays offline, retain the error and follow [connection troubleshooting](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/troubleshooting/common-issues).
