# API reference

Source: [https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/api/overview](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/api/overview)

Link inference and Control management are separate interfaces. Start with a tested local request.

### Separate the two API roles

Process overview; detailed actions and examples are below.

1. **Separate the two API roles**

Local inference and hosted management use different interfaces.

    - Link agent :20505: Health and configured model discovery
    - Model server :8100/v1: Model IDs and chat requests; port may differ
    - Control management: Use a supported management API contract

**Read the API reference**

## Link inference API

Use the endpoint shown under **Serving**, followed by `/v1`. The tested paths are:

| Method | Path | Purpose |
| --- | --- | --- |
| GET | `/v1/models` | Discover model IDs |
| POST | `/v1/chat/completions` | Send a chat request |

Start with the [working request example](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/getting-started/run-first-interface), then read the [Link integration reference](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/integration/your-own-software) for discovery, errors and browser access.

## Control management API

Control manages account, device and model operations separately from local inference. A Control account credential is not a model ID or the local endpoint's API key.

For supported management endpoints and authentication, contact [support@locai.co.uk](mailto:support@locai.co.uk). Use the Control UI until an applicable API contract is supplied; do not infer endpoint paths from browser routes.

## Try a request

The [local API walkthrough](https://docs.aventail.co.uk/docs/getting-started/run-first-interface) shows a real request and response. The old mock playground is replaced by this walkthrough.
